Boston's century-old subway has to be changed to China. What do Americans think?

On September 3, local time, China CRRC officially broke ground at the assembly plant in Springfield, Massachusetts. Although the American town named "Springfield" by the Chinese is not big, it has a hundred years of indissoluble bond with China. This is the first destination for young children in the late Qing Dynasty. Zhan Tianyou was admitted to Yale University and then succeeded in the Chinese railway miracle.

Boston's subway has a long history, a few years before the famous New York subway, and is named after the red, green, and orange. However, as the years have passed, the classic cars of various ages over 30 or 40 years have also brought various troubles to the local residents, and it is not uncommon to delay the accidents.

Although the United States has a long history of subways, it does not produce subway vehicles. Therefore, the Massachusetts Transportation Administration is also struggling to obtain affordable and up-to-date equipment. Since 2010, bidding has been carried out on a global scale. In this long-term marathon competition, CRRC pressed its rivals and finally won a contract of 284 US$566 million in orange and red at the end of 2014.

This contract is not an export of Chinese-made products in the traditional sense, but an export of technology and management. Since the funds of the Massachusetts government are used, it is subject to the Purchase American Goods Act, and 60% of the parts purchased must be produced in the United States. CRRC will invest US$60 million locally, employ 150 local employees to build assembly plants, and purchase from local component manufacturers. Therefore, the future orange and red lines will be the standard American goods with "Chinese heart".

Boston public opinion believes that this is a victory for the Americans, because the price of 566 million US dollars is much lower than other rivals (Hundai Rotem 720 million, Canada Bombardier 1.08 billion and Japan Kawasaki 950 million). Because the transaction price does not exceed the government budget, their ticket prices are not expected to increase.

In February this year, the Massachusetts Transportation Authority dismissed the protests of the three companies that failed the bidding. They said that CRRC has won the bid by a fair and rigorous procedure. "The ability to buy affordable products is beneficial to local development, and the local government will support the CRRC. ."

The arrival of the CRRC will train 150 skilled workers in Springfield. Analysts said that if CRRC wins again in the bidding for subway vehicles in other parts of the United States, the talent and experience of the plant will continue to drive the local economy and employment.

With the launch of the project, there are two things left to the local Americans to pay attention to: First, the local government's drag-and-drop style will not delay the new orange line sample car in 2018 and the new red line sample car in the following year. . Second, after seeing the schematic provided by CRRC, many people hope that after the arrival of the vehicle, can we find a way for CRRC to repair the old platform into a tall picture.

In any case, this is a Chinese made from politicians to ordinary Americans. It is cheap and has added value. Perhaps it can be a beginning to change the image of "made in china" in the United States.
